Chilled Beer Glasses

Thursday, May 26th, 2005 by David

With summer just around the corner wouldn’t it be nice to serve your beer in a nice chilled pint glass? Well if you have converted an old refrigerator into a keg fridge, then I have a great idea for you.

Chances are, your fridge has a freezer on the top. This is a great place to chill vodka, Goldschlager or any other spirit that you like to have chilled. It is also a great place to store your pint and pilsner glasses. A great way to make sure they don’t freeze to the bottom of the freezer is to put down a layer of Sani-Dry Shelf Liner. Grab a few feet of this and cut it to fit the exact dimensions of your freezer. Sani Dry Shelf Liner
Tap Soother Another way to get ready for the summer months is to prevent those pesky fruit flies from gathering around your faucet by using a tap soother. Looks kind of funny, but it does a great job of keeping fruit flies away and preventing the sugar in the beer from crystallizing and making it tough to pull.

Looking for a few good summer beers? Why not go to your local beer store and ask for a recommendation. Many craft brews offer a summer ale, give a few a try then come back and post a comment so we all know how it went!

Ommegang Three Philosophers

Thursday, May 19th, 2005 by David
Out of a little brewery in Cooperstown, New York comes some of the best Belgian style beers I have ever had. The name of the brewery is Ommegang and if you live in New York State, you can order from their online store. If you live outside of New York State and you have a craft brew beer store nearby, they should have it. If not, ask them to get it. It is part of the Duvel family of ales.

All of Ommegang’s beers are great, but for some reason the Three Philosophers strikes the right cord with me. It is a dark ale that is excellent for sipping with dinner. It has a delightful flavor mix of caramel and dark cherries. How do they achieve this? They blend rich, malty Belgian style ale with Lindemands Kriek, a classic cherry Lambic from Belgium. I prefer to serve mine with a slight chill, almost at cellaring temperature (55 - 60ºF).

Man Fired for Drinking the Wrong Beer!

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005 by David

How about this for odd… Some guy in Colorado got fired because he drank a Coors instead of a Bud! What is the world coming to?

It will be interesting to see what happens here. The guy used to work for a Budweiser distributor and when he was out having a few beers with co-workers the waitress gave him a Coors by mistake. He drank it, now he is jobless.

I suppose it could have been worse, he could have been this girl!

Where Have I Been?

Closing on my house! I have heard many people talk about a house closing as the most stressful thing you will ever do. Well, I didn’t find it to be that stressful, but very time consuming. Not only do you have to worry about having your financials in order, but you need to have your utilities set up, schedule the time to close, oh, and I almost forgot - go shopping for new furniture.

The way I look at it, I will make 2 large purchases this month. A house and a big screen TV! I am leaning towards the 52″ Mitsubishi flat screen DLP, anyone have experience with those?

Before I get to enjoy the new TV, I have to paint some of the rooms in the house. In Florida the home builders have you by neck and we had an option of white or a beige-ish yellow. So we are painting a few of the rooms different colors to spice it up a little before we move in. Check that, my father-in-law is painting a few rooms. He is retired and I am still working. So many thanks to him.

Everyone have a good Mother’s Day? Don’t forget that Memorial Day is just around the corner.
