Hope Springs Eternal

Monday, March 31st, 2008 by Mike

Nothing signals the coming of spring quite like MLB spring training getting started.

Baseball in Spring

For us in Buffalo, this also means the onset (eventually) of good weather. This gives us hope, just like the Pirates have hope of a decent season starting with the warm weather training sessions. Hot Dog Rollers

To enjoy the upcoming baseball season, hot dogs are a must, so check out our hot dog rollers and accessories. Just as a can’t miss prospect blows through spring training with a .500 batting average only to break his kneecap sliding into second, you will be able to enjoy your beverage of choice with a set of no-nonsense beer mugs.

Let spring come soon and play ball!

Dyngus Day the Buffalo Way!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008 by Shane

Buffalo Central TerminalUsually my Monday nights consist of video games, watching shows from the D.V.R. or surfing the Internet. I thought this week would be no different. Then I remembered it was the annual Dyngus Day celebration at the Buffalo Central Terminal.

This was my first time at this event and I did not know what to expect. First let me tell you about the Buffalo Central Terminal. This place is a massive, wide open space with blown out windows and very little heat or the means to keep the heat in. What heat you ask? These fancy flame Polka Shaneblasting dome topped table heater things were all over the big room we were jammed into. Also the biggest open flamed turbo heater I have ever seen.

The event had all the right elements including a Polka band, food, drinks, pussy willows, squirt guns and tons of people. There were 2 main rooms set up inside; one housed the band, the ice bar, and a big tent that you would normally see outside for a graduation party. I have to hand it to these guys. It was freezing in there and these guys were rocking. They would play modern songs in true polka fashion. They never had a shortage of people willing to dance.

The second room contained all the food vendors and drink slingers. This was also the only room they attempted to heat. It was wall to wall people and everyone seemed to be having a very good time. We got frustrated in the beer line because it was way too long. We found the wine line to be much shorter so were drinking hard cider all night. It was a good time for sure but I was informed by my girlfriend that next year we are going to participate in a more traditional celebration. Great! Let’s polka!

Drinking Beer Makes Some Serious Economic Sense

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 by Liz

I received the following in an email from my very wise and financially savvy Uncle Bill. Although I’ve never been one for math, this makes total sense to me!

Consider the following:

With the economy and how it is affecting the value of stocks, you should be extra careful as you choose your investments.

  • If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
  • With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original $1000.00.
  • With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
  • If you had purchased $1000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $36.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling refund, you would have $214.00.Hops Holster Drink Can Belt

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

It’s called the 401-Keg Plan.

With that kind of logic, this hops holster might even be considered a money belt. Just consider KegWorks your newest source for expert “financial planning” advice.

Did You Know

Monday, March 24th, 2008 by Tom

Waffle Dog MakerWe here in Buffalo are so focused on Dyngus Day that we missed the fact that March 22nd is National Corndog Day. Make sure you put it on your calendar for next year and be sure to order the right equipment so you’re properly prepared.

I am so disappointed we let this one pass.

What’ll They Think of Next?

Friday, March 21st, 2008 by Liz

I often think about how much technology has advanced during my 84-year-old grandfather’s lifetime. He has witnessed the rise of automobiles, television, and microwaves, debit cards, computers, navigation systems, cell phones and approximately a million other gizmos and gadgets created to make life easier. When I reflect on how far we’ve come already, it’s often hard to imagine what they’ll possibly think of next.

We’re all about the innovation, especially when it comes to beer and bars. The N-ice Rack keeps beer pong cups in line and on ice, so the beer stays cold and tasty. The Sippin’ Seat Flask saves you money and makes it possible to never miss a moment of an exciting game and Twist ‘n Shot Jello Shot Cups use an innovative plastic twisting mechanism to get your jello shot out of the cup and into your system easier than ever before.

Scouring the internet for cool stuff, I came across the genius invention of recent Duke University graduate John W. Cornwell. His inventive appliance has existed in the fantasy worlds of men like Al Bundy and Homer Simpson for years but John was able to use modern machinery and his BSE in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science to make the dream a reality. This video of his beer-launching mini-fridge shows the power, accuracy and sheer genius of this little device that’s sure to make so many lives so much easier.

I guess this means that someday I’ll tell my grandkids about the “old days” when I had to walk to the fridge for a beer, barefoot, in the snow, uphill both ways.

Keep up the great work John!
