Fun Oktoberfest Facts

OktoberfestIt may be summer, but I just came upon a couple of facts about Oktoberfest that I found interesting and amusing. The rest that I came across are just typical things that you hear or read, regarding the large crowds that gather and huge amounts of beer consumed. These two facts, I think, are a little less known and that is why I felt the need to share them with all of you.

  • Only six Munich breweries are allowed to serve beer at Oktoberfest – Löwenbräu, Spaten, Augustiner, Hofbräu, Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr
  • Most children conceived in Oktoberfest tents: 7 (that we know about) in 1991

So, if you didn’t know already, now you do. If you have any other interesting Oktoberfest facts to share, summer or not, send ‘em along.

We attended Oktoberfest last year in Munich. There are 2 tents in addition to the 6 beer tents - the tent for missing and lost children, and the “beer cadaver” tent (where they take those found after TOO much at the other 6 tents).

The “beer cadavers/corpses” are locally referred to as “Bierleichen” which is the exact translation.
