A Blogwork Orange
Monday, June 1st, 2009 by $haneSo I just this week watched the movie, A Clockwork Orange. I have never seen it before but have been told forever that I should see it. So it is a film made in 1971 that is supposed to be based in the future. That concept has always kind of freaked me out. For example this movie’s view of the future still included rotary phones.
It’s hard to imagine where technology will take us 20 or 30 years from now. I would hope we would be into flying cars, very technological homes and temperature controlling jumpsuits by then. Our mobile and communications devices would have developed into an implant or a Cyborg type of integration with our bodies. After all, that’s how terminators come to be. I also think that eventually driving will be automated and our cars will do everything for us.
This brings up an interesting topic of discussion. If you car drives itself, can you drink in it? Where I’m from, a certain culture still uses horse-and-buggies as their primary mode of transportation. On occasion the driver may fall asleep (pass out) behind the reigns. The horse knows where it’s going, so it goes home. So it’s possible even in modern times. This could spawn a new line of bar-cars. Just think of the possibilities.
When thinking about future innovations, unfortunately you have to start with the existing items utilized for the particular need. Let’s look at some KegWorks items and imagine their 30 year evolution.
The lime slicer. This one is easy… lasers!
The ice shot glass. There can be no improvements on this. This IS the future!
Advertisements. After we unlock our full brain potential, the government will just beam ads into our heads, so instead of outside displays, you’ll just start seeing and hearing ads in your head.
Wow! This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. What are your clever ideas for the evolution of drinking / party supplies?

$hane - glad you finally got to watch A Clockwork Orange! If you get into the mood to read, the book the movie is based on actually has one more chapter that Kubrick left out - the one that pretty much ties everything up. Most definitely a good time - you can borrow my copy, if you like!

In my youth I had the nickname Maple tree. This was in part because I had a tendency to be very random. It evolved into the way that my mind takes a singular idea or notion and “branches out” into a thousand related yet seemingly unrelated connections. Without knowing the path from the root to the branch, you would, naturally, not know the relation.

Sounds like a great movie that really gets you to think. Ill have to run to BLOCKBUSTER and rent that one!
