Why Not Whiskey?
Monday, June 1st, 2009 by HannahMany people I know stick with a beverage basic when out and about, that tried-and-true cocktail that’s none other than vodka and tea. Vodka has always been a great choice to mix with a juice, soda or almost any other mixer you like because of its light flavor and color. It doesn’t drastically change the flavor of whatever you’ve decided to mix it with.
This weekend though, I urge you vodka and tea drinkers to try something a little different, something with a bit more flavor. I know, I know, I’m a whiskey drinker by nature and many of you aren’t, but
who knows? If you try it, you might find that it tickles your fancy just as it does mine.
Whiskey and Tea
Irish whiskey (I recommend Jameson but whatever you dig most will do)
Iced tea (although I tend to stay away from sweet beverages, I love sweetened iced tea here)
Ice
Lemon, for garnish
Add ice to a highball glass and pour in whiskey, to taste. You may have to try a few to find your perfect balance. Top with iced tea (again, I suggest sweetened) and garnish with a lemon. Drink and repeat. By the way, a dash of lemon bitters adds a lovely dimension here, too.
This cocktail is a perfect choice for summer – it’s like sunshine in a glass. So next time you’re out enjoying a couple pops, why not whiskey?

Hannah, whiskey and tea is one of my favorites for the summer drinks, but I prefer slightly different variation. I use unsweetened fresh brewed green tea and Canadian whiskey (Canadian Club is my personal favorite) with a large lemon wedge squeezed on top. So good and refreshing on a hot day.

Yum! Pete, that sounds wicked good! Very interesting that you go with green tea instead of black – I’ll have to give it a try!

Indeed, although if it’s a good bourbon, I prefer it neat :)
