A Halloween Costume That Pours Beer? Perfect!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday of the year. Just getting in these new keg costumes gets me fired up for my own invention for this year. The best part is the working faucet on the keg pump – it actually pours beer! This seems like a great / terrible idea. I can only imagine the chaos involved with a couple those costumes at a party. Nice.

Beer Keg Costume Actually Pours Beer

Anyways, I’m headed out to NYC on Halloween for a wedding. The groom’s mother is married to a gentleman from England and he wants to take us out (I’m the best man, so I’m definitely going to help my friend along :) ) to an authentic pub. So, I guess what I’m getting at is I need some suggestions.

Anyone know some great English pubs in NYC that will completely stun this guy with accuracy?

Let me know. I could use the help… and the beer.

Guide to Drinking Like a Man

Monday, August 31st, 2009

If you’re not a fan of KegWorks on Facebook, you should be.

Guide to Manly DrinksHere’s why: I posted a link to a discussion on manly mixed drinks on our page and a lovely gentleman by the name of Geoff Bronner was kind enough to share a link to an older article from Modern Drunkard Magazine on the same subject. I’m so glad he did. What a fantastic piece of writing! The author starts with "If you’re a man aged anywhere from 21 to 35, I’ve got some sobering news for you. Your Grandmother is a better drinker than you are" and then continues to school the men of my generation on real drinks.

One of my favorite lines references cities like my beloved Buffalo – it reads, "Think a martini is always manly? Try ordering one in a blue collar Rust Belt bar. See what kind of looks you get from the locals." It’s the honest truth and I love it! Someone needed to say something!

You can (and should) read the whole article here.

It might sound like I’m half joking but I once stopped seeing a guy because of his affinity for chick drinks. That being said, make yourself an Old Fashioned or strap on a Hops Holster loaded with the manliest brew you can find and propose a toast to being a man. A real man.

Need an Icebreaker? Try Our FUBAR Quarters Game.

Friday, August 28th, 2009

We’re taking Quarters to a new level altogether – I mean, come on, if a game can be called FUBAR, it must be a new twist.

FUBAR Quarters Drinking Game

To play, line each of the round compartments on the game board with a different tab and then attempt to bounce quarters into the slots. Wherever the coin lands determines how much your opponent has to drink and which hilarious stunt must be completed before the next turn. Easy to explain to newbies and simple to play for all, the FUBAR Quarters Drinking Game is a great way to conjure up laughter at any party.

The FUBAR Quarters Game is only $12.95 and includes

  • 1 Wooden Game Box
  • 15 Game Cards
  • 45 Round Game Tabs

In my opinion, $12.95 is a small amount to shell out for hours and hours of party debauchery and drinking fun. Have at it!

Official British Imperial Pint GlassFor the most part, I try to keep an open mind as new things come along. (Case in point: see my blog post a few years back on Miller Chill). But a man has to draw a line somewhere and I think I have found it.

From Core 77 – UK Pub Brawls Spur New Drinking Container

I tried to come up with some witty response to this and nothing came to mind. Nothing feels more natural than a true Imperial Pint GLASS in your hand.

So to this new idea I say: NO!

That’s all I have to say.

Beer Geek Paradise

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Wow!!! Just watched this great YouTube post (embedded below) from the WeAreHereForTheBeer folks touring the beer cellar at Ebenezer’s Pub in Lovell Maine. I am a proud Beer Geek and I am pretty sure if I died and went to heaven it would look a lot like the beer cellar at Ebenezer’s pub. The clip has to be watched just to believe the incredible variety of excellent beer—some it aged for over 10 years. Just watching this video got my mouth watering and made me want to run out of the office to my nearest good beer bar to spend the rest of this day savoring great beer.

What’s on Tap for the Great American Beer Festival?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Great American Beer Fest 2009In just 4 short weeks the Great American Beer Festival will hit Denver, Colorado. On September 24, 25th and 26th, 467 American breweries will be pouring 2,200 of their best and most interesting beers – all in one place. Sounds like heaven to me!

The Brewers Association just released the official list of participating breweries! I’m glad to see Buffalo’s beloved Flying Bison, Rochester’s Genesee Brewing Company, Brewery Ommegang from Cooperstown, Ithaca Beer Company (obviously from Ithaca) and Saranac Brewing Company from Utica will all be there to represent.

Grab a Keg Security T-Shirt to wear, pack your biggest beer stein or Das Boot and book a flight to Denver! You better act fast though; tickets are selling out fast!

The Art of Guinness

Monday, August 24th, 2009

My Goodness My Guinness Pelican Bar SignProving the fact that there is a museum for just about everything, the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising in London is celebrating Guinness’ 250th anniversary with an exhibition featuring a wide range of Guinness advertising over the years. Prominently featured in the exhibit is the work of John Gilroy (pictured right), whose tagline "My Goodness, My Guinness" and the use of zoo animals brought instant recognition to the beer.

The exhibit runs until October 25th.

Dave – Aren’t we supposed to meet that guy in London about that thing sometime in September?
