Root Beer Cocktail

Monday, August 10th, 2009 by Hannah

Every once in a while I get a hankering for some old fashioned root beer. In fact, I had just such a desire since I wrote the post on Root Beer Brewpubs. Finally this weekend I quenched my thirst. It wasn’t a fresh brewed batch of my own but Saranac’s offering. And although I truly love root beer all on its own, I did add a little something extra.

Root Beer Cocktail RecipeTry out this recipe next time you’re in the mood for sweet throw-back. Its taste is reminiscent of vanilla cake frosting. Seriously.

Root Beer Cocktail
2 oz vanilla vodka
Root beer
Maraschino cherry, for garnish

Fill a pint glass with ice. Add vanilla vodka. Pour root beer in to the top and stir. Drop in your cherry and you’ve got an updated, adultified (yep, that’s a made up word) soda fountain favorite.

Cheers!

I was at coles on Wednesday night and heard of a root beer cocktail. Different recipe though. They used Root Beer Vodka and 7-up. Didn’t taste it myself, but it seems like it would taste along the same lines as this.
But I do like Root Beer types of cocktails. I don’t know what it is about Root Beer, but I could probably drink a gallon of it a day and that not be enough. I love Root Beer with my fav. whiskey. Yummy!

M – hmmm, root beer and whiskey? you know I love whiskey, so I’ll have to give it a shot. Here’s another I’ll be trying soon – root beer and Jagermeister… I have a feeling it’ll be fantastic, especially for those who wouldn’t want something as sweet as my root beer and vanilla vodka creation.

M- so I tried the root beer cocktail version you commented about, with the root beer vodka and 7-up (I would suggest ginger ale, though). It was definitely tasty. Tasted more like regular root beer than the drink I made up on Sunday… high octane regular root beer, that is!

For those who don’t like drinks too sweet, I definitely recommend it over the root beer/vanilla vodka creation. Both are quite delicious though.

Sanjay – thanks for passing along! I prefer whiskey (really, bourbon) to any other liquor, so I’ll have to give this a try.

    Try:
    1 shot bacardi 151
    1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Put those in a cup with ice

    Fill cup with root beer.

John – that sounds delicious! I can’t wait to try it.
