Buffalo Locals: Celebrate Winter at the Powder Keg Fest
Friday, February 26th, 2010 by Hannah
This weekend, February 27-28, downtown Buffalo is being transformed into a winter wonderland of fun for the whole family. The Powder Keg Festival not only features the Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament but tons of hot food, cold beer (and non-alcoholic refreshments too), ice skating, showshoeing, broom ball, carriage rides, the polar bear swim, a gigantic ice labyrinth, igloo building, contests and even snow tubing down the Skyway ramp.
Not only is Labatt USA sponsoring this event, but Buffalo’s very own Pearl Street Grill and Brewery will be holding all-you-can-eat pancake breakfasts on both days, from 8a to 12p.
So, if you’re a Buffalonian, live close-by or happen to be visiting us this weekend, make sure to pop on downtown for what is shaping up to be the best winter fest, ever.

Just an FYI, the Ice Maze is now in the Guinness book of records (wow – another beer reference!) as the larges ice maze ever.

Did you go? Good times! The Powder Keg Ale was great! Did you try it? For a first time event, the turnout was great. I hope it catches on and becomes a big deal in the near future. Buffalo needs this sort of thing.
As for the maze, it was a lot of fun, – except for the huge puddles that were sometimes up to 2-3″ deep.
Thanks for the info about the Guinness record.
