Some Beer Pictures Are Worth 10,000 Words

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Let me start off by confessing that not only did I not take this picture but I have no idea who this gentleman is. This photo simply came up as a result in a google search but I absolutely love it and I wanted to share.

Unibroue is one of my very favorite breweries and La Fin Du Monde is a fantastic triple-style golden ale. Its name is French and translated, means "The End of the World" – and not for anything, the guy in this picture looks like he’s more or less prepared for the end of the world. Either that or he just survived it.

After coming across that picture, I decided to check out Flickr and search for cool craft beer photos. I came across this photostream, belonging to Aubrey Laurence (you can follow him on Twitter @AubreyLaurence ) – and I was really into his stuff.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

I did a little more Flickr exploring and found another incredible photostream from the user Osvaldo_Zoom – he didn’t have as many beer photos but I was very into his stuff, including this one.

Oktoberfest 2010: Noteworthy Stats

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Munich festival-goers, you’ve really outdone yourselves this year.

If you had the pleasure of hitting up Oktoberfest in Munich this year, you and the other 6.4 million in attendence helped break the beer consumption record – this year, those at Oktoberfest in Munich drank an incredible 7 million liters of beer, breaking the record of beer consumed at the event over any other year. [openpr.com]

Other noteworthy Oktoberfest 2010 stats for your bag of tricks:

  • 770 ID cards lost
  • 420 wallets lost
  • 366 keys lost
  • 37 children lost (up from 18 in 2009)

Most bizarre things lost at Oktoberfest this year:

  • Leather whip (damn!)
  • Set of dentures (ew!)
  • A live rabbit (huh?)
  • A tuba (how on EARTH does someone lose a tuba?)

Have any other read-worthy Oktoberfest stats for 2010? Tell us in the comments section below.

Cheers!

Voting Day

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Rogue American Ale Beer GlassVoting isn’t necessarily beer related, but the party afterwards certainly can be. We enjoy our basic rights and although the system certainly isn’t functioning as well as it should, we have an obligation to vote. One of the great things about having our friend from Russia visit KegWorks was getting an international perspective on how good we really have it. We have a chance to change the actions our country takes. Become educated on your choices and have your say. I know there is an argument that your measly little vote doesn’t count, but if you and all of your friends, and all of your family, and all of your co-workers, and all of your neighbors said that, it would be a much more significant number not voting. These people probably have similar values to you. Similar ways of thinking and similar interests. At very least you should do your civic duty to cancel out your crazy Uncle Fred…

Everyone has an interest! If you are a student, not a student, have a job, don’t have a job, ever go to the doctor, shop, sell, have kids, don’t have kids, own a home, don’t own a home, drink bottled water, drive a car, pro-prohibition (probably won’t be reading this blog ☺), anti-prohibition, whatever, – you have an interest!

Find your polling place and vote.

Have Your Meat and Drink It Too

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Cheeseburger Martini Liquid meat concoctions aren’t just for carnivorous fiends and wired-shut mouths anymore.

Anymore? Well, anyway…

Toronto cocktail makers created a Cheeseburger Cocktail, according to an article on UPI.com, that actually contains meat… and I’m not just talking about a bacon garnish or something. Meat. It’s not just for plates and bowls anymore.

So what all do they have going into this Cheeseburger Cocktail? It’s a meat-alicious concoction consisting of beef stock, Roma tomatoes and even fresh iceburg lettuce water, garnished with aged cheddar and a dill pickle.

In all honesty, this doesn’t really sound too great to me, despite my love for burgers and meat in general. Of course, I’ll try just about anything, even if it doesn’t come across as scrumptious right off the bat.

Is your mouth watering in delight, or are you more so experiencing dry heaves right now? Would you give the Cheeseburger Cocktail a chance?
