Pee-Controlled Video Games? This Could Be Fun.

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Taking a break from your night of drinking to take a leak may never be the same. According to our friends at Digital Trends, The Exhibit Bar in South London has implemented pee-controlled video games in its bathroom. Or maybe I should say loo?

The games have strategically planned names like "Clever Dick" and "On The Piste" and in addition to providing entertainment to those "on-the-go" they also give advertisers a new way to promote their products.

The high tech urinals come with 12-inch LCD screens positioned just above them. Ads play until a "user" approaches the urinal. Once the system detects that the said user is in position and ready to pee, it switches to game mode. The simple action of directing your stream left or right controls the system. With the skiing game, you navigate the course with subtle but dexterous movements and as the article we referenced mentions, "how well you do at the game is entirely in your hands."

The genius invention of Gordon MacSween has already been trialled at a bar in Cambridge and according to London’s Time Out Magazine there were noted behavioral changes among the peeing public that used them. Apparently there has been significantly less mess because the games are designed to prevent splashing and there’s less vandalism because people are engaged and having a laugh.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll all be peeing for points soon.

Stand In Line? Hell No.

Friday, November 25th, 2011

It’s not that I don’t love a good deal. I do. The thing about it is, I love my sanity more.

I’m the type of shopper that buys everything online. In fact, I did already. Barring a few random stocking stuffers, I’m completely finished shopping and I never left the comfort of my home. Wrapped up in a furry blanket on the couch, laptop across my legs, winter stout in hand, I found each and every gift on my list (and more).

Shop from Home

Screw fighting for a parking spot. F the long lines and crowds. Choose comfort. Choose sanity. Choose to shop online. As for gifts for the adults in your life, I recommend gifts from KegWorks.

Cheers.

New Belgium’s Latest Beer: Snow Day

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Being a resident of beautiful Buffalo, NY I’ve always hoped I could someday walk into a bar and yell "Snow Day for everyone!"

Now that New Belgium has replaced their 2° Below with a fresh winter seasonal called Snow Day, such a thing is possible.

New Belgium Snow Day Winter Ale

I haven’t had a taste for myself yet but from what I hear, this warming and relaxing brew is made with the new(ish) Midnight Wheat malt, Styrian Golding, Centennial and Cascade hops. I can only imagine that all of those hops bring a bright note to the rich caramel and chocolate flavors and roasty undertones.

Grady Hull, assistant brewmaster at New Belgium explained that they "intentionally created a beer that could carry its weight without weighing you down. With layered hops, Snow Day delivers the depth people crave in a winter beer but it’s very drinkable."

With a 6.25% ABV, it’s sure to keep you nice and toasty. Drink too many this winter and you may have to declare your own snow day.

Use their awesome "Libation Location" beer finding tool to see how far you’ll have to go to get your hands on some.

The Big Benefits of Giant Ice Balls

Friday, November 18th, 2011

We have these new Jumbo Ice Ball Molds and I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to explain why they’re worth your while.

Jumbo 2-Inch Ice Balls

They’re relatively simple silicone molds that you fill with water to make giant balls of ice. We’re selling two of them in a package for $12.95 and you might be wondering why you would ever in a million years pay for a piece of plastic that makes ball shaped ice when you have trays in your freezer that make perfectly frozen cubes.

Here’s the thing; a glassful of standard sized ice cubes collectively have a much larger surface area than one large ice cube or ball. I’m no scientist but I know that the smaller the surface area is, the longer the ice will take to melt. I also know that the longer the ice takes to melt, the more time a drinker has with their chilled but not yet watered down drink. I’m not sure how you feel about the matter but as far as I’m concerned, the less dilution the better.

Chad Soloman of Liquid Relations has spoken on how "drinks served on the rocks are going to be a totally different drink based on the size and density of the ice."

Our new ice ball molds make a 2-inch diameter sphere that fits ever so perfectly in a rocks glass. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Hey Look – We’re on TV! KegWorks’ New Commercials

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Today is a very important day here at KegWorks – it’s the official launch of our very first TV commercials, two of them to be exact. To say we’re excited would be an understatement. There’s just something really, really cool about seeing your company on television – probably because you know that a lot of other people will see it too.

Considering we’re still a fairly small company, we decided to dip our feet into this whole "big time advertising" thing in a single market and that market is Chicago, Illinois. We’ve also put up a few digital billboards and bridge billboards in and around the Windy City – if you live in the area and you happen to see one, please let us know what you think!

Don’t worry though… if you don’t live in Chicago you can still see our commercials right here on the Internet.

We decided to dedicate one of them to beer and the other to cocktails, considering we love all kinds of beverages and we do sell all kinds of great products for all kinds of drinks.

We were fortunate enough to film on location in a beautiful home. To set up the right shot and capture the perfect beer pour in our first commercial took us about 6½ hours and we ended up dumping a couple of cases of good beer down the drain. Sadly, we just couldn’t justify drinking that much beer in the morning – especially when we had an artistic vision to fulfill! The martini one wasn’t quite so time consuming but it was certainly just as much fun.

Check out the behind the scene photos on our Facebook Page

Thanks to the folks from our ad agency and a fantastic crew, we had an absolute blast filming and we learned a lot. Hope you enjoy the spots! Here’s to moving on up and having a good time doing it – cheers!
