Bunghole is a Beer Term! Who Knew?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 by Liz

As one might imagine, here at KegWorks we have a pretty laid back office. We enjoy joking around and much to the bosses’ dismay; much of our joking involves playful name-calling.

One of my favorite terms of endearment is actually "bunghole" - a lighthearted label that my dear friend Hannah (our incredibly fun and talented Graphic Designer) will often bestow upon me after I do so something silly or ridiculous.

At first I thought the word was a little absurd in and of itself, however it did grow on me and I’ve recently started calling her a "bunghole" in return.

Much to my surprise, I came across the term "bung" while doing some research on the Beer Advocate site this morning.

Here’s what I learned:

Bung: The stopper in the hole in a keg or cask through which the keg or cask is filled and emptied. The hole may also be referred to as a bung or bunghole. Real beer must use a wooden bung.

Bunghole Ts

There you have it! A bunghole is actually a beer term and we’ve been using industry terminology all along.

The 2-Tap Converted Keg Fridge, Continued

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 by Hannah

Yesterday I posted a piece on Jason Wood’s newest addition to his family, a double tap keg fridge he created with a KegWorks conversion kit. This morning, he followed up with an email and some more pictures of the beauty, all tapped and ready to go. I was so happy to read what he had to say:

"I tapped the kegs last night and all is right in the world. Everything worked perfectly and better. I am so impressed with how easy it was to do everything. The few minute video on the site had all the info really needed. I think I spent more time being worried about screwing it up then I did doing it…. It was VERY easy and took me 20mins, most of which was measuring where to drill the holes so I could still use the inside shelves on the door."

Here’s some pictures of Jason’s finished project. Sure wish we were close enough to stop by and join him for a pint!

Jason, I cannot thank you enough for passing along all these photos and for giving a customer’s point of view of how EASY converting a fridge to a kegerator can be!

To the rest of you out there who are back and forth on the idea - if you’re worried about whether or not you can actually do it, listen to Jason; 20 minutes and BAM! Cold, delicious beer on tap, in his very own home.

Cheers!

New Addition to the Family: A 2-Tap Converted Fridge

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by Hannah

One of our customers and Facebook fans, Jason Wood, sent us some photos of the newest addition to his family; a freshly converted double tap keg fridge that he created just this weekend!

We get so psyched so see the beauties our customers create with parts from KegWorks that we just have to share. Here’s some of the very first pics Jason took of his brand new baby. Once he taps the two pony kegs, he said he’d pass along more.

According to Jason, "on the left is Haverhill Brewery Homerun APA and on the right is Haverhill Brewery Munich Dunkel Lager." Great starting selection, Jason, if I do say so myself! Thanks for passing along your photos, too.

Cheers!

Cost-Effective Kegerator Conversion Kits

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by Liz

Kegerators are awesome and the only thing that stops most people from having one is the initial cost. Ready-to-go kegerators are awesome but even the single tap units for home use can run anywhere from $650 to $1,800.

The good news is that you don’t have to be rich to have a kegerator. If you have an old fridge to work with, you can transform it into a serious draft beer serving appliance for less than $150. Our single tap kegerator conversion kits start at just $125.95 and they come with everything you need. If you don’t already have a CO2 tank for dispensing your keg and you need one of those included, you’re still only looking at $169.95.

The best part is that the whole process is ridiculously simple. People tend to think it’s a pretty big project but the truth is that even a caveman, a monkey, or the dumbest guy on your co-ed softball team could do it.

Once you have one of our kits, all you need to convert your fridge is a pencil, a drill, a screwdriver and a wrench.

Read the instructions (just 10 easy steps) or watch this detailed video if you don’t believe me.

If you still have questions or you just want to know more, feel free to comment here on the blog, shoot us an email via sales@kegworks.com or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.

What are you waiting for? Next time you read our blog you could be enjoying a cold draft beer poured from your very own keg fridge.

The Perlick Perl Creamer Beer Faucet: A Draft System Upgrade

Monday, January 11th, 2010 by Hannah

Back in October, I wrote about a brand new draft beer faucet that, no matter how experienced you are, gives you the perfect, creamy head every time. I can say with full knowledge, since I used it myself, that it works like a charm.

Just in is our Perlick Perl Creamer Beer Faucet. The Perlick name has long been known as a top brand for home and commercial draft systems alike, and this new creamer faucet is no exception. Just look at how sexy and sleek this baby is…

Perlick Perl Creamer Beer Faucet

Perlick’s new Perl faucets (also available in a non-creamer version) come to us with a revolutionary design, featuring the "Perl Ball" and floating O-ring, which eliminate the need for a valve shift. These innovations make the Perl faucets the most sanitary beer faucets in Perlick’s already stellar repertoire; when in use your beer has no exposure to air, which means there is no room for mold or bacteria growth. What does that mean to the beer drinker? Your best tasting beer yet.

Plus, like I spoke about with our other creamer faucet, the Perlick Perl Creamer Faucet allows you to top of your pint with the perfect amount of creamy head, just by pushing back on the lever after filling up with beer.

All Perlick draft beer faucets are constructed with top quality stainless steel, and available in either a polished stainless steel or tarnish-free brass finish, so you can match your existing system accordingly. Plus, they’re made with a forward seat design, which prevents the lever from sticking, giving you a better pour, every time.

Check out the Perlick Perl Creamer Beer Faucet, starting at just $35.45.
