Beer Ad Survey - Do Funny Ads Make You Want the Beer?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 by Hannah

Over the last two or so weeks we’ve been posting clips of humorous beer commercials. It started with the Heineken Walk-In Fridge Ad (thanks Jen) and pretty much spiraled out of control from there (there are a plethora of funny ads now, aren’t there?)

Like Liz, I am a fan of thoughtful, well-planned commercials - especially ones utilizing humor - but I am not, however, one to buy a brand simply because the advertising sticks with me. I tend to buy according to my tastes. Of course, not everyone’s buying habits work that way, otherwise expensive, witty commercials simply would not exist. So, my question stands:

Do funny beer commercials actually make you want to BUY the beer advertised?

The Stagette

Friday, April 17th, 2009 by Hannah

Tonight, I will find myself amongst a pile of rowdy women for none other than a stagette party. It begins at Coles, which is a great joint for craft beers, and then…. who knows where the limo will shuttle us to?

It’s been a while since I’ve attended a bachelorette party. The last one I was at was made up of jello shots, lifesavers glued onto a t-shirt and penis straws. I wonder what’s in store for us tonight? It’s not my bachelorette party, so I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see.

Of course, we all have ideas of stagette standards, like the above jello shots, male strippers and the like. Personally, I would do something a bit out of the ordinary, perhaps pub crawl oriented, filled with tons of craft beer and bourbon. But, do most people just stick to standard drinks, ie, cocktails for the bachelorette-attendees and pilsners/shots for the stag-goers?

What drinks do you like to imbibe in for stag/stagette parties?

No Beer For You!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 by Jm

Really, there are few things as sacredly American as baseball and beer. That is why the thought of baseball without the cold stuff is almost appalling to us KegWorkians!

On Tuesday, just the day after Jay’s opening day in Toronto, beer sales were banned! Read about it here.

The Jays liquor license was actually suspended for three games for permitting drunkenness, permitting the use of narcotics, selling and serving to apparent minors, failure to request approved identification and permitting illegal liquor on the premises.

Ha!

What do you think? Did the Jay's deserve to go dry?

Walk-In Fridge

Thursday, April 9th, 2009 by Jen

I’ve always been a fan of good advertising and this particular commercial for Heineken caught my attention. It made me wonder if I would actually get really excited and scream if I had a closest full of my favorite brew. I would prefer a closest full of chocolate sweets, or a walk-in freezer of ice cream but nonetheless a walk in fridge of Guinness is good too! I love funny commercials.

What kind of beer would you scream for?

Drunken Bar Stool Driving…

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009 by Hannah

So, the man who been accused of driving drunk on his bar stool is requesting a trial (see article here).

My question for all of you is:

What are the most bizarre vehicles you've ever crashed, drunk or sober?

A St. Patrick’s Sunday

Monday, March 16th, 2009 by Hannah

We could not have asked for a more beautiful, perfect St. Patrick’s Parade Day here in Buffalo. Not a single cloud could be spotted. The sun beat down on the Queen City from dawn til dusk, treating all of us to temperatures worthy of t-shirts. I happily spent the day outside of my favorite local bar, Staples of Allentown, tended by my boyfriend, Fritz, who was dressed so fittingly he put Leprechauns to shame.

This was truly my favorite St. Patrick’s Sunday I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The smiles, laughter, conversations and near-rivers of Jameson and Guinness flowing from the bar were enough to make me wish that every weekend would be the same.

I started my St. Patrick’s Sunday at Staples with a shot of Jameson, my favorite Irish whiskey, followed by two cups of Irish coffee (black coffee with a heavy serving of both Jameson and Bailey’s, for me). Next were two double Bloody Mary’s - Fritz makes the BEST I’ve ever had (recipe in a post to come). From there, the day was filled with Irish Car Bombs and shots of Jameson, coupled with corned beef and loads of water to wash everything down. It couldn’t have been a better day.

How Did You Celebrate St. Patrick's Day this Weekend?

A Time to Grill

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 by William

Lately I’ve been day dreaming at my cubicle. I see me marinating chicken, seasoning burgers, lining up the sausages and soaking the corn. Boy, I can’t wait til grilling season starts. I know you can grill year round in some areas of the USA, or even here if you really get the urge, but I hate the cold.

Personally I’d prefer 65 - 70° and sunny year-round. I guess I’m still day dreaming because, here in Buffalo, we just don’t get consistently good weather like that. A more accurate statement would be that our weather sucks; but I digress.

Back to grilling. I like to use charcoal over a gas grill. It might take more prep time, but the end results are scrumptious. To me, that’s what grilling is all about; the rubs, the seasonings and the charcoal flavor. It’s not about those pretty lines you get from the grill.

We have about 40 days before the temp will average above 50 degrees in this area. So there’s still a little while before I can pull out my grill at home. But hey, here at KegWorks, we’ve been known to cook out in the dead of winter.

(Hint, hint… to the powers that be in the KegWorks brain trust.)

What's your favorite way to grill?
