Inexpensive Bar Upgrade: The Modular Garnish Pod

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Modular garnish trays aren’t typically something that I would think that deeply about, but these are pretty nice. Gently tilted for ease of access, a nice rotating cover and a snap-in modular expansion coupler to connect 10’s, 100’s or even 1000’s of garnish trays for an infinitely expandable garnish army! (muhhahahahaaa!)

Stylish black plastic and a gently frosted top grace this svelte garnish tray. The modular expansion joint connects the trays for a useful and easy to connect and disconnect bar tool. I also love the no-slip pads at the base to keep this garnish pod from slipping across a wet bar.

Modular Cocktail Garnish Pods

I personally plan on getting enough to go around my entire basement, to fully democratize condiments for all (and so that I won’t have to get them for anyone who visits my house; so get it yourself!)

Dive Into the World of Craft Beer

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

You’ve been thinking about it. I know you have. You’ve been hemming and hawing and wondering… "how do I know which craft brews I would like?" and "what if I pick up beers that don’t suit my taste at all?"

Admittedly, there’s always a chance that, when picking up some beer you’ve never tried, you may not completely dig it. In fact, you may even straight up hate it. But here’s the thing; you’ll never know until you try. Plus, if you only ever stick to your tried-and-true, you’ll never have the chance to realize all that beer has to offer.

So, how does one jump into the world of craft beer? How do you know where to start? One great way to either get into micro brews altogether, or to try offerings from breweries not yet on your "been there, done that" list, is to have a beer sampling party with some friends. Pick up some Beer Tasting Glasses (these hold 2.5 ounces each) and ask everyone to bring at least one new craft beer for everyone to try. This way, you’re not stuck with a 6-pack of something you hate, and even if there is a brew you don’t enjoy, it’s likely that at least one of your guests will. Everyone wins!

Beer Sampling Glasses

Still not convinced? Beer reviews are a great way to help you make your pressing decision. While you may not always agree with what the reviewer has to say once you’ve tried it, at least you’re armed with a bit more knowledge about the style and brew than when you started.

So, what are you waiting for?

Give Your Bar or Den a Retro Feel in One Word… Leatherette

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Faux Leather…
Leatherette…
Pleather…

Call it what you will, but it always screams 70’s-riffic for me. Just think, you’re in your "super"-retro bar downstairs and you’ve never really removed all of the dark "wood" paneling downstairs. What do you do?

Embrace it! Do you really want to do the work of ripping down all of the paneling just to find 852 different layers of wallpaper and crumbling plaster underneath, or do you want to channel your inner pimp and go with the groovy flow!

Leatherette Bar Pub Table for Cocktails or Your Den

Alright, so you’ve finally realized the potential of your "new" pimp-tastic bar. This is what you need. A faux leather table! This is the stuff that helps you realize your dream and gets you back to drinking, rather than drywalling the entire basement with your buddies again, because you installed it backwards.

Think about it. Let me know.

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Look, pouring a perfect pint of beer isn’t rocket science, but we’ve all known pours to go awry sometimes… maybe the keg isn’t cold enough, or the CO2 pressure isn’t set properly, or the keg is starting to go flat (perish the thought!). New Draft Beer Faucet Caps Keep Taps Clean Too!

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Honestly. Are you still blocking your draft beer faucets from fruit fly intruders with crumpled-up paper towels? Really? Is that why the pint you poured me has pieces of beer-soaked paper floating in it? Ewe. Not acceptable, especially with all of the low-cost faucet caps out there these days. In fact, now we can do you one better than even a straight-up, simple faucet cap!

Introducing the Kleen-Plug Faucet Cap with Brush, which not only keeps your beer faucet and hose free of bugs, flies and the like, but even prevents sediment and yeast from building up in your tap. What does that mean to you? Better tasting, fresher beer! Plus, it’s designed to fit all tap sizes, from domestic to European.

The Kleen-Plug Tap Cap is yours for just $3.75.

Comfort Food in Western New York

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Cabbage Shredder for SauerkrautFall brings with it an icy chill in Western New York and here we need some comfort foods to get through the frigid winter. One of my favorite winter dishes is kielbasa and sauerkraut, a perfect mix of warmth and cholesterol to keep your blood from freezing on that first cold snap.

It’s always the best with fresh ingredients and it’s really easy to do with a cabbage shredder, for the freshest sauerkraut around. I also recommend onions and apples and the whole mess in a crockpot, simmering all day long.

Finish it off with a doppelbock (I’m a big fan of the Troegenator) and you’ve got at least a couple of warm hours in you, before you have to shovel the driveway… nice.
