Cocktail bitters are spirits infused with flavors, typically from plants, fruits, or spices. They date as far back as the early 1800's, originally used to assist with digestion and cure stomach aches. Infusing your cocktail recipes with just a few drops of bitters will give them an additional level of flavor depth. Many bitters are also renowned for their ability to cure hangovers.
Creole bitters were inspired by pre-Prohibition recipes for Peychaud's--the famous bitters brand that's been produced in New Orleans since the 19th century--and feature prominent floral and fruity notes with hints of anise, caraway and fennel. Try some in your next Sazerac.
This quality recipe is produced by The Bitter Truth bitters brand. Like all Berg & Hauck offerings, Creole Bitters are made by slow macerating roots, seeds, barks, fruits, herbs and plants in an alcohol base and come packaged in a bottle that evokes old apothecary containers from the 1800s.
