The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colors, and the weekends are full of football and chili. My sweater bin is out of storage, my down comforter is on the bed, and I can still leave the windows open at night.
If you ask me, it’s the most wonderful time of the year.
The only thing that can make it even better is an incredible drink menu to keep you from going thirsty. Here are four alcoholic beverage suggestions to help you make the most of this glorious season.
4 Good Reasons to Sip Your Way Through Fall
1. Pumpkin Beers
There used to be a time when I could review almost every commercial pumpkin beer out there, but much to my tastebuds’ satisfaction, that time has passed. I will recommend Ithaca’s Country Pumpkin and the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, but let’s be honest, there are tons of options out there, and most of them are pretty solid. If you want to get crafty you can even use this Tap Kit to serve your favorites from a pumpkin keg. It doesn’t get more autumnal.
2. Apple Crisp Cocktails
Combine 1 part brandy and 2 parts apple cider (chilled) and then top it off with Champagne. Add a few apple slices for garnish and you’re good to go! You’re technically supposed to make/serve these in flutes, but I personally think they’d be much more cozy in a Mason Jar Glass.
I’m not going to give you the recipe for a Manhattan, because you probably already have a favorite. I will tell you, though, that you should probably try using rye whiskey, Hopped Grapefruit Bitters, and Luxardo Cherries if you want to try a more heady, more complex, more delicious version.
4. Knockout Punch
This is a big batch cocktail perfect for football parties, and it’s awesome – and easy to make. Just combine 1 1/2 cups of dark rum (I prefer Meyers), about 1 1/2 cups of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 2 cups of lemon-lime soda, and 2 1/2 cups of Rhubarb Syrup, and pour them over ice. Serve in a punch bowl or Mason jar beverage dispenser.
