Every year for as long as I can remember, my Aunt Theresa has put a big, pretty bow on a Dundee Sampler pack and given it to my dad as a Christmas gift. He likes it of course, I mean – it’s beer. Another thing to consider is that he’s someone who typically drinks Labatt Blue, so it’s kind of even a beer upgrade.
The thing is, there are plenty of cool gifts to give beer drinkers that aren’t beer.
For guys like my dad, I’d go with something like a wall mount bottle opener and cap catcher or maybe even a BrewTender. Maybe some cool Stone Pints and a bottle of Arrogant Bastard (a real beer upgrade with some added entertainment value).
If any of my family and friends are reading this and they’re curious as to what you’d get a beer geek like myself, I’d recommend a Stainless Steel Growler (they’re new, they’re different and they’re pretty sexy) coupled with a $25 gift certificate to a local craft brewery (I like Community Beer Works, in case anyone is wondering.)
Tasting glasses are always good for people who like to geek out and share samples with their friends, and if they’ve been really good this year there’s always the ultimate beer gift – a kegerator or kegerator conversion kit.
So if you’re one of those people who are like my Aunt Theresa, I challenge you to think outside of the case this year. With so many great gift ideas to choose from, it’s silly not to give them something that they can hang onto, along with a little bit of liquid holiday cheer.
Anyone can buy beer (over the age of 21 anyway) but a beer present they’ll cherish for bottles, cans, and kegs to come, takes your gift-giving to a whole new level.
