We use our smartphones for just about everything these days. Alarms clocks, internet browsers, flashlights, banking, and of course, making phone calls. In most regards, these devices – and the apps that come along with them – have made our lives easier.
There are plenty of beer apps made uniquely for beer lovers, and even a few homebrew apps, but nothing quite like the Brewbot. Made by Cargo, a Belfast-based team of developers and designers, the Brewbot is a smart brewing appliance that you can control and monitor with your smartphone,
The Brewbot team said their goal was to “make an easy-to-use, controlled environment that is aesthetically pleasing, and frees up brewers to focus on the recipes.”
Inspiration for the Brewbot came from the team’s love for homebrewing. While they enjoy the adventuresome nature of the hobby, they found themselves frustrated with the inability to craft the exact same brew twice. They wanted a way to automate parts of the process, in order to get creative with the recipes. And so the Brewbot was born.
According to the Cargo team, Brewbot is suitable for homebrewers, pubs and restaurants, and even micro breweries. The project is currently running on Kickstarter, where they have 25 days and about £50,000 ($67,000) in fundraising to go.
The Cargo team plans to ship initially to the U.S., Ireland, and the U.K., and backers can pre-order a unit for £1,500 ($2,031), plus up to £150 ($203) in shipping charges.
