Right around this time of year, it really starts to feel like winter might not ever end. The holidays, and all the merriment and excitement that comes along with them, have long passed. My skin is so pale you can basically see right through to my organs. Except you actually can’t because it’s 4:00 PM and too dark out already. And the cold? Honestly? It’s easier if we just don’t talk about it. Just…no.
It all adds up you know? But you can’t let winter win. You have to be strong. Take solace in those few stray rays of 5:30 sunlight or the fact that February 2014 is damn near in the books already. Need something more? I’ve got two words you: Mardi Gras.
Mardis Gras is a festival of fun. It’s a hall pass that grants you temporary reprieve from the icy dull drudgery of winter and nestles you cozily in the warm embrace of a rollicking party. And it’s coming up next Tuesday March 4th.
Embrace it. Make Mardi Gras your own. Celebrate with friends and family in whatever way you see fit. This might be Hurricanes, general debauchery, and enough plastic beads to sink a canoe. Or it might be ordering a pizza with your family and settling in for a rowdy night of board games before a reasonable bedtime. What you do doesn’t matter so much as the fact that you do something.
Put it on your calendar. Give yourself something to look forward to. Break up those winter doldrums. Mardi Gras is just about here to save the day. Start planning your celebration today!
