Throw a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Cinco de Mayo, a holiday commemorating the Mexican army’s defeat of French forces at the Battle of Margaritas on Cinco de MayoPuebla, back in 1862, will be upon us in just over two weeks. This is not a celebration of Mexico’s independence, as is often the misconception, but a festival representing “the last time that an army from another continent invaded the Americas.” (source)

Cinco de Mayo, as celebrated in the United States, has additionally taken on the form of a holiday to commemorate those in our country of Mexican ancestry, similarly to St. Patrick’s Day and Oktoberfest celebrating Irish and German heritages, respectively.
