Crystal Head Vodka

I have seen vodka makers try to distinguish themselves in a variety of ways with a variety of bottles and gimmicks, but I think Crystal Head Vodka takes the cake. This brand has it all:

    • a European glass bottle shaped like a human skull
    • an attachment to the supernatural legend of the 13 crystal skulls (think last Indiana Jones movie)

Crystal Head Vodka

  • Dan Aykroyd as a celebrity endorser
  • a slick website
  • a viral video campaign
  • an exotic manufacturing process involving pure water from Nova Scotia and triple filtering the vodka through diamonds

Kudos to the marketing team behind this vodka! Your product has it all!

When I watched the video on the Crystal Head site, where Dan Aykroyd talks in a highly serious manner about the legend of the 13 crystal skulls and its connection to this vodka, I thought it might be a joke or viral promo for an upcoming movie. Boy, was I wrong. This is a real product. For somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 you can buy 750 ml of premium vodka in a glass bottle replica of a human skull. I don’t know how the vodka is—personally I think Stolichnaya is as premium as a vodka needs to be—but the bottle sure is cool.

So, if anyone out there reading this wants to send me a sample I would love to find out if the Crystal Head Vodka is as good as Crystal Head Vodka marketing.

Pete – I’m not a vodka nut, but I actually had this stuff about 2 weeks ago. It was good, Sara said it was really smooth and she’s an authority.

Deron, Pete – perhaps there’s something to this “diamond” filtering after all.

Cool vodka! But actually its Newfoundland not Nova Scotia and also a Canadian Vodka not European Vodka.

Newfoundland is correct. My bad. Said the skull itself was “a European glass bottle” not a European vodka.

Its avialable at the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation.
