Unveiled late last week at Tails of the Cocktail 2009 is Fee Brothers’ newest bitters creation – Aztec Chocolate Bitters – a sublime blend of bittersweet chocolate and a hint of spicy heat. This bitters can heighten your experience in almost any cocktail, especially those based on dark spirits, like rum or whiskey. A must-have new bitters for any bartender, mixologist or cocktail connoisseur.
I’m a firm believer that chocolate can and should be enjoyed all throughout the year, but after tasting this bitters, thoughts of warm (read: not straight up or on the rocks), bourbon-based cocktails filled my head—all the types of cocktails I love to imbibe in during fall and winter. And so I bring you…
1½ oz bourbon (I suggest Makers or, for a sweeter drink, Basil Hayden’s)
¾ oz sweet vermouth
¾ oz Campari
2 dashes Aztec Chocolate Bitters
Whiskey-soaked cherry, for garnish
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir. Serve in a martini glass, garnished with a drunken cherry. Enjoy!
Now, I’m sure that all of you creative types can come up with a slew of other ways to enjoy Fee Brothers newest bitters. When you do, make sure to tell us all about it so we can try your concoctions too.
