Top shelf or well liquors, it’s the mixer that makes the drink. Dave has taught us this lesson through countless cocktail tastings—not that he shorts us on liquor quality. But whether we’ve imbibed in high-end spirits or not, the fact remains that the mixer makes the drink.
Fever Tree, a hipster mixer maker straight out of London, has developed a number of premium tonics, sodas, lemonade and more. We’ve touted all-natural tonic waters before, so today I’d like to touch on something a bit different; Fever Tree Bitter Lemon.
A unique taste that’s both clean and refreshing, Fever Tree Bitter Lemon offers a blend of Sicilian lemons, hand cold-pressed orange oils, cane sugar, subtle botanical flavors, spring water and natural quinine. No artificial colors or flavors muddy up this mixer.
A new mixer experience calls for a new cocktail. Here’s one from the Fever Tree website:
Lemon or citrus vodka
Fever-Tree Bitter Lemon, fridge-cold
1 oz fresh orange juice
Curl of lemon skin, for garnish
Fill a highball glass with fresh ice. Add 1-part vodka to 4-parts Fever Tree Bitter Lemon. Mix well. Top with fresh orange juice, which will settle to the bottom. Garnish with a curl of lemon skin and enjoy.
