It may still be cold outside for a lot of us – here in Buffalo it is for sure – but that doesn’t mean we can’t heat things up inside with a tropical concoction. In fact, I believe now is the perfect time to have a taste of tiki… and carry it through the summer months.
Created by Trader Vic, a name long synonymous with tiki, the Fog Cutter is a quintessential exotic cocktail, right up there with the Mai Tai and the Zombie. Trader Vic said himself, “Fog Cutter, hell. After two of these, you won’t even see the stuff.”
Check out this video of Robert Hess, aka Drink Boy, as he shows us how to prepare Trader Vic’s own Fog Cutter, step by step:
2 oz lime juice
1 oz orange juice
½ oz orgeat syrup
2 oz light rum
1 oz brandy
½ oz gin
½ oz sherry
Pineapple and cherry, for garnish
In a cocktail shaker with ice, shake up juices, orgeat, rum, brandy and gin. Strain over ice into a tiki or highball glass. Float sherry on top. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry. Drink and repeat.
