When I was about 11 years old my family got a bread machine. All of a sudden, we had warm, fresh bread at our fingertips. It was awesome. I was a fat 11 year old.
I bring this up because bread machines were a revolution. For the entirety of human history, bread has been a staple source of sustenance. But it’s also been kind of a pain in the ass to make. Luckily, we live in the Supermarket Age, but what we gained in convenience, we lost in freshness. Until the advent of bread machines that is.
Well, move over bread machines. Because the PicoBrew Zymatic is here to take your place. But instead of crusty, warm bread, you get beer. Sweet, lovely beer. Check this video:
Yeah, that’s right. The PicoBrew Zymatic is basically a bread machine for beer. Be still my beating heart. It was developed by a team of super smart dudes (two of whom did impressive work for Microsoft) who apparently thought “Hey, let’s build a machine that will make dreams come true.”
Probably the coolest part about the PicoBrew (except for, you know, the whole making delicious beer with nothing more than a touch of a button thing) is that it’s connected to the Internet. It records the pertinent data of your batch and makes it super easy to replicate recipes from friends or other brewers. By taking the guesswork out, it becomes that much easier to judge a recipe on the merits of the ingredient interplay.
The PicoBrew is still in development as of this writing, but they are accepting pre-orders and expecting an August 2014 delivery date.
So what do you guys think? Is this a revolution waiting to happen? Or a dumb idea that’s not likely to catch on? Let us know!
