Oktoberfest Without German Fare?

I only just rolled back into town from the Ellicottville Oktoberfest – which was a blast, by the way – but was, in my mind, missing one important thing… German food! I went expecting to be surrounded with sausages, sauerkraut, potato pancakes and the like but found vendors selling foods you find at most fairs and carnivals.

Only one vendor had anything German at all, at least that I found – a sauerkraut covered hot dog. It wasn’t German sausage, but it had to do.

Perhaps Fritz and I will look into setting up a stand next year to fill in the gap 🙂 All the same though, it was most definitely a fun time and I look forward to next year.

Anyone head out to Oktoberfest celebrations in your necks of the woods? Tell us about them!

I know, sad….but as all of us Buffalonians know, Oktoberfest in E’ville is basically an excuse to turn the village into Chippewa street for a long weekend.

However, in an effort to stay on topic, the Upstate New York Homebrewers Association Oktobertest is this Saturday, from 10:00 am – ? in the Wadham Lodge at Powder Mills Park in Victor. A 1/4 keg of Custom Brewcrafters Oktoberfest, Rohrbach Oktoberfest, and Dundee Oktoberfest has been donated, we will be providing a variety of (local) German sausages from Swan Market, along with the other usual picnic fare, a chili competition, and clams can be had for $6/dozen, not to mention a homebrew competition and some surprises. Come one, come all!
