Now that I’ve been drinking craft beer somewhat religiously for a few years, there aren’t too many around that I haven’t had. Sure, new brews are being released all the time but my friends and I seem to be so desperate for unfamiliar beers that we buy them and share them with a sense of urgency.
When Founders became available in my corner of Western NY, I was excited (partially because all of the build up and hype that went on.) I couldn’t wait to try every beer and then buy them all again just because I could.
As much as I love Founders and I’m still glad they’re here, I don’t really go out of my way to have it. I am way more obsessed with AleSmith. In fact, I don’t think I’ve been this into a brewery since I first discovered Unibroue.
AleSmith Brewing Company of San Diego, California now has beers available at retailers near me and I just can’t stop buying (or drinking) them. I bought the Anvil ESB (again) and YuleSmith just yesterday, and my last beer trip before that, I came home with the Wee Heavy, IPA, and Horny Devil.
I’m just getting started and I still have Grand Cru, Old Numbskull, Speedway Stout, and X left to try. It shouldn’t take me very long to collect them all.
ESB is one of my favorite styles lately and Anvil is without a doubt one of the best beers I’ve ever had. The Wee Heavy is equally as impressive. I asked one of my smartest beer friends what he thought and he referred to it as the best domestic Scotch Ale there is.
Exceptional beers aren’t always easy to come by and it’s even more rare to find a brewery that puts out an entire lineup of them.
If AleSmith is available in your area and you haven’t checked them out yet, I highly suggest you do. You won’t be disappointed.
