The Super Bowl is almost here. This is the greatest event of the year in my opinion. I love eating awesome foods such as loaded nachos, chicken wings and pizza… and of course plenty of beer! I am a huge New York Giants fan so I threw a great Super Bowl party last year.
One thing to keep in mind though is how much you and others consume throughout the day.
To help keep drivers and passengers safe on Super Bowl Sunday, the Auto Club recommends these tips:
- Don’t drink and drive
- Use a designated driver
- Call a friend or family member or a taxi for a ride if you have been drinking
- If hosting a Super Bowl party, be responsible—take car keys from party goers as they arrive and don’t let them drive drunk
- Serve non-alcoholic drinks and encourage each group to have a designated driver
- Serve protein-rich and starchy foods to slow alcohol absorption
Here’s an easy recipe that’s both of the above and is sure to please any carnivorous crowd:
1 10¾-ounce can condensed cream of chicken soup
¼ cup melted vegetable shortening
3 cups biscuit mix
¾ cups chopped pepperoni
2 tbsp green onion, finely chopped
½ tsp caraway seed
Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C). Combine soup and shortening in a bowl. Stir in biscuit mix. Mix well. Fold in pepperoni, onion and caraway seed. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Yields about 30 pops.
So make sure to observe these rules. I will need to myself seeing as I will be drinking away my sorrows without my Giants being in the big game this year.
