Tax Beer for Health Care Money? Come on!

I have to say, Deron really knows how to get me going in the morning, especially when it comes to issues involving one of our simplest and favorite pleasures – beer.

According to this article he sent me this morning, we soon may be shelling out $2 more per case of beer, in order to provide health insurance for everyone. With about 50 million Americans currently uninsured, the money needed could in no way be garnered from beer and liquor money alone.

The proposal would also add a tax, albeit much lower, to sugary sodas and the like. The idea here, I would assume, is to tax people for what some may consider " poor health choices" when it comes to what we put in our bodies. Fine and dandy, but red wine and dark beers are both part of a healthy heart diet when taken in moderate amounts.

I’m all for health care reform, but back off the beer!
