As many of us experienced, a hangover is often a disappointing downside of a fun night with friends. Sure, you can drink a bunch of water to cope with the dehydration or perhaps eat something greasy, like the pizza you bought at 3:30 am the night before. But a true solution to this problem seems far-fetched at this point.
However, ZBiotics may just have accomplished that. We’re no scientists, but the long and short of it is, they extracted a natural probiotic bacteria from a Japanese superfood called Natto that breaks down acetaldehyde in the body. Acetaldehyde is the toxin that causes hangovers.
Sure, it seems like these “miracle hangover cures” pop up seemingly every year. However, this one seems like it could be more legit than some of its predecessors. Could these scientists have come up with an actual, real-life hangover solution?
While we can’t be sure as of yet, early indications are that confidence is high in this product. This isn’t just some idea in its nascent stages. This could be an actual solution for hangovers that is backed by PhD-scientists. As of this writing, they’ve raised over $42,000 on Indiegogo. You can check out their Indiegogo page and reserve anywhere from 6-2000 doses of their formula. First orders are scheduled to ship in February 2019. However, any issues with the testing may lead to changes in that target date. Their original goal was $25,000, which they hit in 4 hours. The team has also raised an additional $2.8 million in seed funding for research and development and the initial product roadmap.
The next step for ZBiotics will be clearing the hurdle of placebo-controlled, peer-reviewed clinical trials. They have completed lab testing that shows their bacteria does in fact break down acetaldehyde. The product will not be sold until it’s extensively tested and deemed safe for use by every legal standard. The intended use of this probiotic is to ingest it prior to starting a day or night of drinking.
Needless to say, we’re rooting for you ZBiotics! If this is truly a solution to hangovers, it would be quite the game changer. Also, the company would have built the groundwork for a formula that breaks down other toxins that ail the human body. Pretty exciting stuff. Cheers!
