Wednesday night enjoyed quite a few different brews, but this one stood out most from the rest.
Victory Hop Devil IPA poured a deep, jewel-toned amber-orange with 2-½ fingers of slightly off-white, fluffy head. Its aroma was citrusy and a bit bitter, but not quite as hoppy in the nose as I would’ve thought. Some sweet malt was present here as well, creating a balance.
Hop Devil’s hops come through heavy in the flavor. Spicy hops hit the front of my tongue and finish out with a delicious bitterness on the back and sides of my tongue. The sweet German malts smooth out the palate a bit; not enough to balance it, but make it quite drinkable instead of straight up bitter.
Carbonation is lively in the medium-light bodied brew, which makes it quite refreshing, but not overwhelmingly so. Weighing in at 6.7% ABV, this is an American IPA I’d definitely like to session next time I’m feeling the need for hops.
