Add complexity to your favorite agave-based and dark spirits with this intriguing chocolate bitters formula made from cacao beans, chilies, and warm spices.

Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Cocktail Bitters contain the perfect blend of cocoa and genius, enhanced with a hint of heat.

Cocktail bitters are spirits infused with flavors, typically from plants, fruits, or spices. They date as far back as the early 1800's, originally used to assist with digestion and cure stomach aches. Infusing your cocktail recipes with just a few drops of bitters will give them an additional level of flavor depth. Many bitters are also renowned for their ability to cure hangovers.

Fee Brothers, located in Rochester, NY, is a fourth-generation family-owned business that began as a small saloon/delicatessen back in 1863. Today, the product list includes almost 100 drink and cocktail mix products, shipped to distributors and establishments across six continents.

Made from cacao beans, peppers, and spices, this intriguing bitters recipe tastes of rich chocolate with warm, cinnamon and chili notes, and a pleasantly bitter finish. They are rich, flavorful, and a perfect complement to your favorite dark and agave-based spirits.

These Aztec chocolate bitters come packaged in a paper-wrapped glass bottle with a screw-top cap and dasher-style dispensing insert. Having a bottle on hand opens up a whole new realm of cocktail creativity for the passionate bartender.

Each 5 ounce bottle of bitters contains approximately 150 dashes. The amount of liquid in one dash varies depending on the amount of bitters left in the bottle. The less remaining in the bottle, the bigger your dash gets.

    Not much taste
I was expecting a chocolate taste like I have experienced in some restaurant Manhattans where chocolate bitters were used. This just doesn't give much of the chocolate flavor.

    how do you use these?
    A shopper on Sep 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I rotate three bitters for Manhattans (rye, of course...) and you won't believe how much different the chocolate tastes from the orange, vs. 'regular'. The real secret, though, is in fruit drinks like a pina colada, or a hurricane. It's really puts a nice note in there.
Do the Aztec chocolate bitters have caffeine?
    A shopper on Jul 1, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Since chocolate is used in the preparation of chocolate bitters, there is certainly some caffeine and theobromine (a very similar stimulant) in the Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Bitters. I have no idea how much of these related alkaloids are present (no info on the bottle or online that I could find) in these bitters, but when the bitters are used in cocktails, even with a heavy hand, it is reasonable to assume that only traces of these alkaloids are in the cocktail, not enough to produce stimulation or any other effect (except helping to produce the great flavor), especially when compared to the stimulant substances in absinthe or Red Bull. If still concerned, why not contact Fee Brothers in Rochester? If caffeine remains a concern, buy the bitters anyway, and try just one dash initially. If that doesn’t bother you, try using more in your next cocktail, progressively until you get the taste you want, without the caffeine buzz (I guess you want to avoid the stimulant effects).
