This floral and fruit-forward recipe is a resurrection of a style of old fashioned bitters used by bartenders in the 19th century.

    Overview

With this unique bitters recipe, Fee Brothers has rescued a vintage, pre-Prohibition cocktail ingredient from relative obscurity.

Cocktail bitters are spirits infused with flavors, typically from plants, fruits, or spices. They date as far back as the early 1800's, originally used to assist with digestion and cure stomach aches. Infusing your cocktail recipes with just a few drops of bitters will give them an additional level of flavor depth. Many bitters are also renowned for their ability to cure hangovers.

Fee Brothers, located in Rochester, NY, is a fourth-generation family-owned business that began as a small saloon/delicatessen back in 1863. Today, the product list includes almost 100 drink and cocktail mix products, shipped to distributors and establishments across six continents.

Made with natural peach flavor and bitter almond oil, this Fee Brothers peach bitters recipe has a floral aroma and sweet stone fruit taste balanced by a pleasant, lingering bitterness. It adds a perfect peach sweet to a variety of cocktail recipes, including those that use sherry or other light spirits as their base.

Peach bitters were used by 19th and early 20th century bartenders in drinks made with sherry and other delicate spirits. Use it to make a Xeres cocktail, which combines a dash each of peach and orange bitters with dry sherry and a touch of simple syrup.

Like all Fee Brothers offerings, Fee Brothers Peach Cocktail Bitters come packaged in a paper-wrapped glass bottle with a screw-top cap and dasher-style insert for easy dispensing.

At John Howie Steakhouse we had a great Rye Manhatten that used peach bitters. We wanted to try this at home so we're purchasing these bitters to see if we can reproduce the cocktail.

    Is there sugar in bitters?
    A shopper on Mar 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. Bitters are made from herbs, roots, flowers, bark. Cocktails consist of alcohol, bitters, and (sometimes) added sugar if the alcohol itself doesn't add enough sweetness.
