A wooden shive bung is the most traditional option for closing off the shive in your cask ale dispensing set-up. It's a great cask part for a brewery that likes to bring their cask conditioned beer to festivals or anyone who wants to bring their real ale on the go.
It performs well because as the wood takes in moisture it naturally expands to create a tighter seal. It pops right into the bung of a firkin beer cask and sits their with a tight seal so you don't lose any of your ale.
Just pop it into the cask bung hole during transport and then replace it with a hard spile or soft spile to vent the gas when you're ready to prepare your cask conditioned ale for consumption.
