    Overview

A genuine wooden barrel doesn’t use glue or nails in construction, so sometimes leaks happen. Solve the problem painlessly with this easy to use Barrel Wax.

This 1/4-ounce tub of barrel wax is exactly the tool you need to address the natural leaks that are a part of the barrel aging process.

Just apply a small amount of wax wherever the hole or leak has formed, and then push the wax into the hole with your finger until the flow stops. Voil! No more leaks.

Don’t panic if your wooden barrel develops a leak. Just take a deep breath, grab yourself a tin of Barrel Wax, and let your finger do the fixing!

    Features
    • Barrels sometimes leak from the head or stave seams or even through the wood
    • This can happen with any barrel and is a normal part of the barrel aging process
    • To stop leaks, apply a small amount of this barrel wax to the leaking area
    • Directions: With your finger, apply a small amount of wax on the barrel where the hole or leak is occurring, then push the wax into the hole until the leak stops

    Works as advertised.
I had a small leak in my first barrel. I had to use more than expected and would have preferred a 0.5 oz size but there was no mess and application was easy.

    Saved the beer and floor
I have a full sized whisky barrel full of beer in my basement. It started to leak after swelling the barrel along the bottom edge of one head. Also some small leaks along a few stave seams. A small screw dive and two Barrel wax containers later it all seams to be stopped. Can I buy this buy the quart? Very easy to use and works very fast.

Great product at an outrageous price
Works great, but the cost per volume is outrageous. As a result I've started using Paraffin wax & a heat gun instead. It's messier & more work, but costs a fraction of the price.

will barrel wax work to seal the spigot on the barrel ?
    A shopper on May 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It depends on the condition, or health, of your barrel.

If your barrel is dry or has a good leak (like more than 4 ounces of loss a day) around the spigot, wax may not suffice, you'll need a more robust solution like epoxy putty* topped with wax. If the leak is a mere trinkle (less than 4 ounces of loss a day), wax may suffice.

My friend has a similar experience with a rum barrel that had an extra bung on the side, he could never completely seal it but with putty he got it down to less than an ounce of loss a day.

Finally consider waxing and testing the tightness *before* you fill the barrel, it's actually pretty hard to apply any kind of sealant onto a running leak. Make sure you've restored the barrel to water tight condition as well, you may even not need any kind of sealant if the barrel is in great shape.

    * note that even epoxy putty is not a bullet proof solution. I had a major leak of my barrel, like half a cup to a cup a day. After I put layers and layers and layers of epoxy, I got down to a few ounces a day. No matter what, the beer always found a way out. After 4 months of barreling I decided to take the beer out - best decision ever.
How long should you let the wax sit until it fixes the leak? My Barrel started leaking around the front rim at the bottom.
    Amanda L on Nov 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: In our experience with this stuff is mixed. It really can only help small weepy leaks. Even with no pressure in the barrel, more drippy leaks have too much hydrostatic pressure behind them so the wax can't work. Ultimately you are waiting for the barrel to swell and seal itself.
