  • 459 square feet of wall space
  • Many rolls of 30 mil thick magnetic sheeting adhered to the wall
  • 43 KegWorks employees putting up caps
  • Started on Tuesday, November 27th @ 3:47pm (the very first cap was a Dogfish Head)
  • Last cap went up on Wednesday, January 23rd @ 2:31pm (and that one was from Harpoon)

Frequently Asked Questions

Did you have to glue the caps to the wall?

Nope - we let the magnetic sheeting do most of the work.

But doesn't the magnetic wall demagnetize the credit cards of everyone who walks by?

Negative - we walk by every day and our credit cards work just fine.

How many photos did you have to take to make the video possible?

Our photographer took 10,525 pictures in all - but a few of them were just for fun.

Where did you get that awesome song you have as the background music?

It's called "Music for a Found Harmonium" by Penguin CafƩ
Orchestra. You can check them out here.

Are you going to make another bottle cap wall?

We just might - guess you'll have to wait and see.

Should I buy all of my draft beer equipment, man cave essentials, and cocktail ingredients from KegWorks?

Yes - but only if you like cool stuff and shopping with an awesome company.

Ran across your video on YouTube while looking up bottlecap tutorials and this was simply an amazing project! Too bad I don't drink enough beverages or I'd have aspirations for doing one in my house :-) you guys rock and I love the spirit of your company and it looks like you guys and your employees have a great time!

Thanks for sharing the idea, details and high quality production video (I came across this on YouTube. My 8yo son collects bottle caps and this is a perfect way for him to display them (on his bedroom wall).

Your son sounds pretty cool! If you do make a bottle cap wall, we'd love to see a photo of the finished product.

What do I need to do the same in my garage? I have a bunch of caps that need a wall. Is the indoor good for a garage?

Very cool idea,

Jeff

Your wall looks soooo cool! Two questions - does the magnetised sheeting affect any of the tech etc in the office, and has any one ever dared to move (or even pinch) some of the bottle caps?! Bet people have been tempted!

Hi, Clare. I have no knowledge of the sheeting affecting our IT. As for moving the bottle caps, people (especially visitors) occasionally brush against the wall and knock a bunch down, so that's always a fun clean up!

Hi = could you tell me about how many caps fit in a say square foot area? We're looking to do something similar and want to estimate how many caps to get

David

I just measured and counted... one square foot equals about 110 caps. Best of luck with your project!

Where do I get the magnetic wall covering from?
Is there anywhere in the uk that sells it?

Hi, Victoria. We got the sheeting here: http://www.custom-magnets.com/flexible-magnetic-sheets-with-adhesive-50-ft-rolls.html

It hasn't affected our tech, no. As for moving the bottle caps, yes - people are regularly tempted. :) Sometimes, people don't realize it's magnetic and will brush against it or run their hands across it and knock a whole bunch down at once. That's always fun!

Very awesome! I started my bar walls in my home about the same time you did. I'm just one guy drinking beer with friends and probably have 8,000 bottle caps so far. My bar top has about 1,300 non-mathcing caps, which was a challenge, but they are awesome with grout under epoxy. If you have boxes of bottle caps left, let me know! The project shall go on.

That's awesome Dan! While I don't believe we have extra caps saved up around the office, I can check. If you would you want to send some photos along for us to look at and possibly share on social media, we'd love to check them out. Send an e-mail to cherbeck@kegworks.com if you'd like. Thanks!

Looks great, I've been saving all of mine for about 5 years with no real reason in mind. Think I'm up to 5000-7000 I like this because it doesn't damage the caps in any way. Is there a reason you used 30 mil? Was the 20 mil type to weak to hold the caps up? Thanks!

Hi Nick, while its possible the 20 mil would hold the caps, we wanted the extra strength to make sure that caps were not falling off randomly.

How did you attach the magnetic sheeting to the wall?

This is very cool. Was the magnetic sheeting hard to get and was it expensive? The video was very cool and I love the beginning where the cap travels from the floor up to the wall. Who did the video creation for you?

David Rivers

The sheeting was just screwed into the wall every few feet. Super easy.
