Ball and retainer were missing on a ball tap and I just noticed its absence. I don't want any trouble during a party.

Without a check ball you have no check valve. Czech valve if using it with Pilsner Urquell.

They're small and easily lost, especially on the deck. Just a backup plan.

Where does the check ball go in the coupler?
    A shopper on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The check ball goes in the beer out orifice. Drop it straight down the hole from the top, then insert the hard plastic stopper down the hole to keep it in place. The stopper has little spaces built in to allow the beer to flow around it yet it will retain the check ball from coming out.
