We used this to join two pieces of 2" OD brass rail that we got from a scrapyard. It fit perfectly, and it even worked out that the joint was hidden by one of the supports.
Very hard metal drill at opening slot
The splicing tubes worked great. Just make sure your splice in within a floor bracket so that it hides any cutting imperfections.

Made very well but had a real tough time compressing it and joining the tubes. Even with channel locks. There has to be a better way but u til there is, I'll still recommend it.
